Vendor Quick Start Guide

Where can you petition?

DO

  • Collect signatures in high-traffic areas.

  • Gather petitions on public property when possible (sidewalks, public parks, etc.). “Public property” means lands and improvements owned by the Federal Government, the state, the county, or a municipality and includes lands located adjacent to the county or municipality, buildings, grounds, parks, playgrounds, streets, sidewalks, parkways, rights-of-way, and other similar property.

  • At storefronts with multiple stores attached, events, farmers markets, and flea markets, (Be polite at all times)

  • Do not petition Trader Joe’s

DON’T

 

  • Don’t engage in heated debate with opponents of the imitative. Just say “thank you for your time” and move on.

  • DO NOT TURF JUMP another petitioner. Your Vendor agreement will be severed!

  • Don’t commit acts of violence, you represent the Proponent of the initiative. Your Vendor agreement will be severed!

How to get valid signatures

Only collect signatures from Prequalified Registered Voters. QUALIFY EVERYONE

Qualification Questions:

  • Do you vote in California? What county are you registered in?

  • Do you remember the address where you receive your sample ballot?

    • No? Please use your old address.

    • Yes….Great! Please fill in here

  • Have you moved or gotten married recently? Use old address unless their voter registration was updated.

  • And don’t forget to use your legal name.

 

Legalities of the Petition Initiative Form

All information must be filled in by the voter!!!

No exceptions!

​

  • DO NOT WRITE ANYTHING in the “Voters Information” box!

  • It is forgery (A Felony!) to sign someone’s name, initial as someone else, fill in missing info.

  • DO NOT Underline, White-out, Highlight or Write on any petition, they will be invalid.

  • Signer must initial all corrections, strikethrough{s}, and changes.

  • Make sure everything, especially the signer’s printed name is completely clear and is legible.

  • Don’t collect petitions from citizens who tell you that they are not registered to vote – those signatures will be invalid.

Turn in and pay.

  • Turn ins are every Sunday 3pm -7pm, and Thursday 4pm – 8pm.

  • Locals must turn in on Thursday. Locals can turn in both Thursday and Sunday.

  • Vendors in Client negotiated rate hotel must turn in Sunday and Thursday

  • Please have your paper alphabetized by county.

  • Check to make sure you signed and dated all of your declarations. Your writing must be clean and legible.

  • Sunday turn in is paid on Thursday.

  • Thursday turn in is paid on Sunday.

  • Thursday is a mandatory turn in.

Declaration of Circulator

​

A circulator of a state initiative must be 18 years of age or older. Each section shall have attached thereto a declaration by the circulator of the petition setting forth, in the circulator's own hand, the following

• The printed name of the circulator.

• The residence address of the circulator, giving street and number, or if no street or number exists, adequate designation of residence so that the location may be readily ascertained.

• The dates between which all the signatures affixed to the petition were obtained. Preprinted dates or generalized dates, other than the particular range of dates during which the petition section was actually circulated, are not allowed.

Each declaration submitted pursuant to this section shall also set forth the following

• That the circulator is 18 years of age or older.

• That the circulator circulated the petition section and witnessed the appended signatures being written.

• That according to the best information and belief of the circulator, each signature is the genuine signature of the person whose name it purports to be.

• That the declaration is true and correct under penalty of perjury under the laws of all 50 States
